Wounded K9 Officer Receives A Hero’s Salute After Leaving The Hospital

A Thurston County K9 officer in Washington named Arlo started his career with much dignity and bravery. Now, Arlo’s entering into retirement as a hero.

After entering the force with Thurston County Sheriff’s Office back in 2019, Arlo quickly proved to be a loyal protector to his partner and peacekeeper in the community. However, after a successful run, Arlo came dangerously close to making the sacrifice of his life after a vehicle pursuit ended badly.

At the beginning of January 2021, Arlo was injured during a scuffle with an armed suspect, where he was shot two times and transported to the hospital in serious condition. Thankfully, however, after receiving outstanding medical attention, Arlo was able to survive his injuries and is now recovering from his wounds.

However, to ensure Arlo’s continued well-being, it was ultimately determined best that he enter into a much-deserved retirement. After being cleared for discharge from the veterinary hospital, Arlo’s colleagues decided to honor him with the most fantastic send-off ever. Members of the force lined the hospital entrance to salute Arlo as he made his way out (video below!).

But that wasn’t all. While on his way home, he also received a beautiful homecoming from neighbors, friends, firefighters, and fellow K-9 handlers from multiple organizations.

The K9 officer is still on the road to completing his recovery, now cozy and safe at home with his loving family. Though Arlo is no longer an official member of the working force, it’s safe to say his sacrifice and bravery will never be forgotten.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit wrote: K9 officer Arlo “continues to improve every day.” The sheriff’s office added that he’s at home continuing to rest and get a lot of love and attention from his family.

The office continued, stating how much they appreciate and are so thankful for all of the overwhelming support – and that Arlo is receiving thousands of treats and gifts from the people; their community is unique.
