When adopting a new pet dog, it’s important to consult every family member. It’s also important to take into consideration how the new dog will interact with existing pets.
Katty’s husband didn’t do any of that, and that’s why they are stuck with a chaotic dog.
Katty’s husband brought in a dog named Bella without any regard to anything else. It was a selfish decision. The trainer that was brought to help them echoed this sentiment.
Professional dog trainer Victoria Stilwell was appalled by what she saw coming into Katty’s household. The trainer admitted that there were so many problematic things going on. Bella’s chaotic behavior was one of them. She said it would take her years to address every one of them.
The trainer started her work by addressing each family member. Victoria talked to the husband and told him how he was being selfish and what he should have done. She also talked to Katty’s children and told them how they should be helping their mother.
Victoria also replaced the family’s existing baby gates. The previous gates were easily disregarded by Bella because she can jump over them. The trainer replaced those with taller gates that have latches so people can pass through when needed. The two dogs in the house were also required to be in separate spaces.
The last part of the trainer’s work involved the introduction of a new leash. Victoria had Katty use a special leash on Bella. It was designed to reduce pulling and increase the ease of handling.
The leash, together with proper instructions from Victoria, turned the situation around. Bella was more submissive and willing to cooperate. Katty’s husband and children were also more supportive and willing to help take care of the dog.
The trainer didn’t just help with Bella’s case, but she also brought the family closer together. A lot of problems involving dogs can be addressed by also addressing the problems within the owners. Victoria is excellent at what she does.
