Naleah was browsing an animal shelter’s page to look for a dog to adopt when she came across a photo of an obese Siberian Husky named Mishka. Naleah immediately asked if Mishka was available for adoption but was told that the big pooch was not.
Naleah asked why Mishka was not available for adoption and was told that Mishka was displaying signs of aggressive behavior. Naleah wanted to see Mishka herself, so she decided to visit her at the shelter.
Naleah shared that she kept calling Mishka’s name as soon as she got to the Husky’s kennel at the shelter. Naleah knew she wanted to bring the Husky home with her when they made eye contact with one another and felt an instant connection with the pooch at that moment.
Naleah was told that Mishka needed to pass a temperamental test before she becomes available for adoption. Naleah shared that she immediately went to the shelter to adopt Mishka as soon as she received word that Mishka had passed the test.
The shelter workers told Naleah that they would have most likely put Mishka down had she not adopted the obese Husky. Naleah recalled immediately checking Mishka’s weight as soon as they got home from the pound and found out that she weighed 109 pounds.
Mishka was depressed, did not have any motivation to walk or move around, and showed no interest in any toys offered to her. Naleah recalled that Mishka could not even get up off the tile and did not have the strength to stand still.
Naleah quickly introduced her foster dogs to Mishka to see if they could help the obese pooch come out of her shell. Fortunately, the pups’ outgoing personality encouraged Mishka to start playing, socializing, and moving around more.
Mishka eventually started going out for walks, hikes and enjoying every moment of it. Mishka’s health improved, and she weighed 65 pounds after a year of being a well-loved pet.
