Charytee Windham from Texas did what needed to be done: to save two 4-month-old Chihuahua mix pups from the kill list. The pups were candidates for euthanasia because one of them had eye inflammation. Due to limited resources, the shelter had to choose the dogs that were likely to be adopted and put the least adoptable dogs to sleep.
Charytee posted about the two dogs on her Facebook account, hoping that someone would adopt them and save them from the kill list. However, days had gone by and no one was stepping up to adopt the two dogs. Despite the non-response of the people around her, Charytee didn’t stop from saving them.
Without hesitation, Charytee drove for two hours from her home going to the shelter. It was 3:30 p.m., so she was hoping that she would make it to the shelter before 6:00 p.m. She clearly understood that after saving the dogs, there would be other challenges. She was going out of town for the weekend to accompany her son to scout for a college. Also, she already had six dogs, so adding two more dogs to her growing family might take a toll on her monthly budget.
Luckily, Charytee made it to the shelter 15 minutes before its closing time! She got the two dogs and brought them home. The following day, Charytee brought the two dogs with her on her college tour with his son.
Charytee didn’t stop to look for an adopter or a rescue center for the dogs. Thankfully, she was able to find a rescuer that would take the two dogs. Easy Street Animal Shelter located in Saint Jo, Texas promised that they would provide the medical care that the two dogs needed before they would be released for adoption. Charytee was very happy because all of her efforts were not put in vain.
The staff of the Easy Street Animal Shelter named the dogs Jack and Diane. Easy Street Animal Shelter was a no-kill shelter and they would take in dogs as long as they had the resources.
If not for Charytee’s quick response, Jack and Diane will not be given another chance in life. Thank you, Charytee, for your kind heart!
