A mixed-breed dog named Aspin could be frequently seen in the general area of Vista Mall in Taguig, Philippines. Most of the employees at the mall knew and named him Dogdog. Some of them regularly gave him food and treats.
Sometimes, Dogdog could be seen lounging in the middle of the floor inside the mall. He seemed to be enjoying himself because he wouldn’t budge even if security personnel would call to him. Guards would have to lift him upright and escort him out because some mallgoers might get scared of an unsupervised dog.
Some of the people, though, were amused by Dogdog and took videos of him. The stray Aspin was not threatening at all. He was a very friendly dog because he was so used to being around people.
Dogdog was a well-mannered dog, so the management of the mall allowed him access inside the premises. According to Bryan San Andres, the Corporate Marketing Officer of Vista Mall, the management had a keen interest in animals, so they could not drive away Dogdog.
Dogdog felt accepted and comfortable at the mall that he did not want to leave. As a result, the management adopted him and even gave him a job as a member of the security personnel. He was a part of the morning guard mounting and could stay inside the mall with a security guard as a partner. Patrolling the premises at night was also a part of his job.
As it turned out, Dogdog was a great help to the team. He was the one who chased down a thief who was then turned over to the police.
The Mall has adopted 10 stray dogs to date. All of them ultimately joined the security personnel, who made sure the dogs got complete vaccinations, proper hygiene, and good food. Each of them had a personal relationship with a security guard and was treated as part of a family.
