Pitbulls have always been known to be vicious and aggressive dogs. This stereotype even precedes them, making many stay away from the breed despite them being one of the sweetest dogs. Pitbulls are the best when it comes to looking after children, as what the Pitbull in this featured story is out to prove.
Stacie Rae English’s brother has a Pitbull Labrador mix named Hurley that he takes out to walk every night at 10 PM. He does so because he knows that people are afraid of Pitbulls because of their stereotype. People would distance themselves, or maybe even ask him to take his dog inside where it won’t bother anyone. But the fact is, Hurley is the gentlest giant you’ll ever meet.
Hurley is even considered a hero! Stacie took to Facebook to share with everyone how Hurley ran to the aid of a child he didn’t even know. And to this day, they never even got a chance to meet the child or know if he’s okay. It all happened so fast.
It was like any ordinary night when Stacie’s brother was out taking Hurley for a walk. When he walks Hurley during those hours, he would unleash the dog so that he has the freedom to do whatever he wants. He can run around, play, dig holes, and explore different sights and scents.
But that particular night, Hurley was about to come face to face with a deadly predator. The quiet night was suddenly interrupted by a child’s scream. Without any second thoughts, Hurley ran away from his dad and rushed to the child’s aid.
Stacie’s brother ran after Hurley as he disappeared into the night. When he did catch up, all he could see was Hurley flailing a deadly copperhead snake and killed it. The boy who screamed ran back to his mother’s car and sped away. They thought the child had been bitten, which is why they left in a hurry.
Upon realizing that they had chanced upon a copperhead nest, Stacie’s brother immediately contacted animal control to check out the scene. When animal control asked to check on Hurley, they found that he had been bitten on his neck. The bite had swollen and Hurley was foaming at the mouth.
They rushed Hurley to Denton Animal Emergency Hospital where he stayed for a night so that his condition can be monitored. Hurley was eventually given a green light to go home the next day. Stacie and her brother are thankful that Hurley is okay.
Though they never knew if the boy was bitten or if he is okay, they are proud that Hurley selflessly put himself in between the boy and the deadly snake. Stacie went on to share pictures of Hurley on Facebook, hoping that people will look at Pitbulls differently after hearing about Hurley’s heroics.
